Summary:
Olathe Fire Station 1 serves as critical infrastructure for the City's first response system and is required to be in proper operating condition. The directly affected bunk room and locker room spaces face safety and operational issues related to cracks in the concrete foundation developing significant height differentials in common area walking paths and rendering the bunk room walls disconnected from the floor slab. These differentials make the bunk room space non-compliant with ADA standards. Cracks in the resinous floor coating in the locker room/restroom could lead to moisture infiltration, creating an environment prone to mold growth. Quality of life improvements in the bunk rooms and locker rooms are also needed to provide adequate and equitable living and work space for City Fire staff. Improvements to the building foundation, bunk rooms, and locker rooms will appropriately extend the useful lifespan of Olathe Fire Station 1 to accommodate Fire Department operations while awaiting funding for Fire Station 1 replacement.
