Consideration of Agreement with Johnson County Consolidated Fire District 1 for fire protection services in specified unincorporated areas adjacent to the corporate limits of the City.

Summary:

The Olathe Fire Department and Johnson County Consolidated Fire District 1 seek to outline responsibilities in providing fire protection and emergency first response and rescue services to residents in the area referenced in “Exhibit A” of unincorporated Johnson County, Kansas. Exhibit A is a map of the specific areas:

the unincorporated area located north of 159th Street between Pflumm Rd and Clare Rd

the unincorporated area located north of 167th Street between Lackman Rd and U.S. 169 Highway

the unincorporated area located north of 175th Street to 167th Street between Lackman Rd on the east and ½ mile west of Ridgeview Rd on the west.

The intent is to give direction to the County Communications Center to dispatch Olathe units to the areas regardless of the specific status of individual annexations or detachments. This agreement benefits both agencies by creating a much simpler understanding for both City and Consolidated Fire District 1 personnel on areas of response and limits District units from responding so far north into Olathe. The fire district will retain responsibility for code enforcement, plan review and issuing burn and fireworks permits in the areas. This change is not expected to impact the overall fire department call volume as these unincorporated areas are lightly populated.

None. These services will come from existing fire department operating budget.
