Summary:
The Olathe School District and the City of Olathe are proposing entering into an agreement effective August 1, 2026, that will provide for the School Resource Officer Program utilizing a shared cost approach. This agreement is a continuation of the previous agreement entered into on January 1, 2000, between the City of Olathe and the Olathe School District USD 233. The program consists of assigning uniformed police officers, known as school resource officers, and associated equipment to secondary schools.
This agreement includes staffing the School Resource Officer Program with sixteen (16) full-time school resource officers and two (2) full-time sergeants for the 2026-2027 academic year. It is expected that the Olathe School District will pay the City of Olathe forty-one percent (41%) of the program costs related to salary and benefits and the City of Olathe will pay fifty-nine percent (59%).

Financial Information:
Estimated program costs for City fiscal year 2026 (2026-2027 school year) is $2,945,427.43. The Olathe School District is expected to provide $1,207,625.25 to pay their share of the program costs. The City of Olathe is expected to provide $1,737,802.18 to pay for their share of the program costs. The agreement includes a provision for the same sharing of any program increase resulting from a pay step plan salary adjustment and/or market adjustment.
