SUMMARY:
On February 7, 2012, the City Council passed Charter Ordinance No. 72 (Attachment A). Charter Ordinance No. 72 exempted the City from the provisions of KSA 64-101(a),
a non-uniform statute. The purpose of the Charter Ordinance was to give the City flexibility in designating an official newspaper or newspapers. The Charter Ordinance allows the City to designate one or more newspapers by a resolution of the City Council.
On July 24, 2018, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 18-1067 designating The Kansas City Star, The Legal Record, and The Gardner News as the City's official newspapers.
The Kansas City Star is no longer a locally printed newspaper, and The Gardner News has closed.
The Johnson County Post has become eligible to be designated as a legal publication.
The attached resolution (Attachment B) designates The Legal Record and The Johnson County Post as the City's official newspapers.
