Summary:
In July 2025, the City of Olathe experienced a 100-year (1% chance) storm event which caused localized flooding. Residents reported home flooding at three locations including: South Curtis Street at Water Works Park; 13139 South Brougham Drive; and 13844 S. Shannan Street. In order to identify flood control project alternatives, the City is initiating a Watershed Improvement Preliminary Project Study for these three locations.
Through a qualifications-based selection process, HNTB Corporation was selected to conduct the studies. The studies will include survey, hydraulic modeling, cost/benefit analysis and identification of preferred alternatives. The contract total with HNTB is $265,690.
This project was chosen to be funded by Johnson County’s Stormwater Management Advisory Council (SMAC) program in the amount of $199,267.50 (75% of $265,690). In order to accept this funding, the City must approve an Agreement with Johnson County.
The studies will be completed in Summer and Fall 2026.
