Summary:
The Olathe 2040: Future Ready Strategic Plan prioritizes increasing unique experiences and places in Olathe, and establishing the City as the premier business, retail and entertainment draw in the region. Allowing more variety and creativity in downtown signage supports our community by enhancing the visual assets that create a vibrant and inviting place for people. Business signage should reflect the unique character of the business and support the overall enhancement of the downtown district.
Community Development staff is recommending updates to Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) 18.50.190 pertaining to rooftop signs, wall signs, projecting signs, and canopy signs in the Downtown-Core zoning district. These recommendations allow for greater flexibility in support of many new businesses coming to downtown Olathe and will also serve to attract future businesses.
Staff is seeking feedback on the proposed recommendations pertaining to downtown signage prior to preparation of a draft UDO amendment and public engagement efforts.
