Summary:
The federal government recently announced grant funding available under the FY2026 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program with local solicitation for specified cities within Johnson County. The grant through this program allows local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions.
The Olathe Police Department will assume the role of fiscal agent for purposes of this grant and will administer the financial and programmatic requirements. Because the grant specifies that a single joint application must be filed, the Olathe Police Department will be applying for grant funding in the amount of $107,790 on behalf of the eligible agencies of Johnson County, KS and the cities of Olathe, Overland Park, Lenexa, and Shawnee, KS. The City of Olathe allocation is $33,973 with no matching funds required.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among the eligible cities and Johnson County, KS will be submitted for approval and signature by the city to meet the grant submission deadline of October 16, 2026.
