Report on the authorization of the Modernization of Fire Stations project, PN 6-C-031-24.
________________________________________________________________________________
Summary:
The Modernization of Fire Stations Project is included in the 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) with a total of $1,050,000 of general obligation bond funding. This project is for updates and modernization to existing fire department facilities.
This project will target interior renovations and building expansion needed at Fire Station No. 2. The award of the FY2022 SAFER GRANT allowed the Fire Department the opportunity to add an additional 24/7 staffed apparatus for calls for service to Fire Station No. 2. Daily staffing will increase from nine to thirteen members. The renovations and expansions as part of this project will increase the number of sleeping rooms, increase storage for personnel protective equipment, and increase the exercise room for staff.
Approval of a resolution authorizing the $1,050,000 of general obligation bond funding is necessary to allow staff to proceed with the design and construction of the project. Staff will return to the City Council on May 7, 2024, to request funding authorization in the amount of $1,050,000. Pending approval of the funding resolution on May 7, 2024, staff will also request approval of a design services agreement and a construction management agreement on May 7, 2024.
