Summary:

As part of the 1% for Art for the City Hall Parking Garage, the Public Art Committee, with City staff, requested proposals for an art installation in various select locations on the new parking garage. There were 198 submittals to the RFP, which the Committee narrowed down to 10. Of those 10, three were invited to submit designs and were interviewed.

On August 26, interviews were held and the committee selected Jay Yan based on his design and responses to questions. The artwork selected has a strong exterior presence, integrates with the overall design of the garage, and integrates color to enhance its visual impact both day and night. The proposed art piece is constructed of a durable, ceramic tile material and will provide a permanent design feature, and wayfinding icon for the City of Olathe.
