Summary:
This project will construct a truck bypass route connecting the proposed K-10 Highway/Lone Elm Road interchange to College Boulevard. The route will provide direct truck access between K-10 Highway and College Boulevard, reducing heavy-truck traffic on Lone Elm Road, where truck traffic will be restricted. Improvements will include construction of a two-lane industrial roadway with turn lanes, curb and gutter, streetlighting, sidewalks, and storm sewer infrastructure.
The proposed agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) establishes the City’s role as project administrator and authorizes KDOT funding for project design and construction. KDOT will provide up to $18.7 million in funding for staff time, design, right-of-way acquisition, utility relocation, and construction costs.
Design is scheduled to begin in Fall 2026, with construction anticipated to begin in 2028.
