Summary:
Project No. 3-C-011-24 was authorized by Resolution No. 24-1009 on January 23, 2024.
The project will improve Quivira Road from 143rd Street to 151st Street from a 2-lane unimproved roadway to a 2-lane divided arterial section with turn lanes. Improvements will include pavement construction, curb and gutter, medians, streetlights, sidewalk and sidepath, bike lanes and storm sewers.
A total of fifty-eight (58) easements and/or public right-of-way dedications involving thirty-four (34) tracts of land are to be acquired for this project, of which fifteen (15) easements and/or public right-of-way dedications involving (8) tracts of land remain to be acquired.
Attachment A is map of the project area.
The resolution (Attachment B) is the first step in the eminent domain process.
To keep the project on schedule, Land acquisition needs to be completed by September 2025 so that utility relocations can begin. The project is tentatively scheduled to begin construction in Spring 2026. Staff will continue to negotiate with the property owners to try to reach agreements to acquire the property before using the eminent domain process.
