Summary:

The public hearing is being held to allow interested Olathe agencies, organizations, and individuals an opportunity to provide ideas and proposals for public services, housing, public improvements, and/or community development needs and priorities for Olathe’s 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. 

 

Interested parties are also invited to share comments about past performance of CDBG funded projects.

 

Conducting this public hearing is required by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and is the first step in the City’s annual process of preparing an application an application for CDBG funds through Johnson County.

 

The City has a long-standing cooperative partnership with Johnson County for receiving CDBG funds. As a result of the Cooperation Agreement, the City of Olathe will receive 41% of the County’s 2025 CDBG funds based on the FY 2010 census information. 

 

Applications for 2025 CDBG funding are due to the City by 12:00 pm on June 7, 2024.  Council members will consider funding requests in July.

Financial Impact:

Annually, Olathe has directed CDBG funds toward public services, public facility improvements, and housing rehabilitation programs that benefit low to moderate-income individuals and families and/or older neighborhoods.  Approximately $451,000.00 is received annually.
