Summary:

Johnson County Government has completed an RFP process to extend the existing contract with Arcwood Environmental for disposal of household hazardous waste.  The contract award is for the period of June 1, 2025, through May 31, 2026.  A modification to the pricing rate sheet should be noted.  Increases in labor, transportation, supplies, waste management fees and other cost are contributing factors. The increase in pricing applies to Toxics and Pesticides ($1.40/pound to $1.83/pound).  Johnson County Government along with Olathe City staff participated with the evaluation of the renewal.

Johnson County and Olathe currently have a cooperative agreement to dispose of household hazardous waste to reduce stream and waterway pollution from illicit dumping. Participation by Olathe enhances the county’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) services by allowing county residents to dispose of materials at the city’s facility located at 1420 S Robinson Dr, Olathe, KS.  Johnson County provides annual funding to allow Johnson County residents to dispose of HHW at the Olathe facility. This cooperative effort with Johnson County has led to more participation at collection events with increases anticipated.

Staff recommends renewal of this contract with Arcwood Environmental for a one (1) year contract, with the option of to renew the Agreement for up to four (4) additional one-year terms by written agreement.

There are no Olathe vendors who perform this service.
