Summary:
This project is needed to provide a missing link of 119th Street between Woodland Road and Northgate, giving total transportation connectivity of 119th Street from K-7 Highway to I-35, reducing congestion on adjacent arterials, and promoting commercial growth and development along the 119th Street corridor. The Project will include a new 4-lane divided arterial section of 119th Street between Woodland and Northgate, as well as intersection improvements at Lone Elm Road and 119th Street, Iowa and 119th Street, Woodland Road and 119th Street, with a new roundabout at 119th Street and Northgate Street. The Project will also include a bridge that spans the BNSF Railroad and Mill Creek. The Project will provide pedestrian accommodations and a connection from 119th Street to the Gary Haller Trail.
Work is nearing substantial completion on the west side of the project (Lone Elm to Woodland Rd). City staff have been discussing the remaining schedule with Pyramid Contractors, Inc. and believe there is an opportunity to shorten the planned closure of 119th Street / Northgate for the roundabout construction and decrease the length of the overall project schedule.
Change Order No. 6 would set the closure of 119th Street/Northgate from March 2, 2026, thru October 1, 2026, weather permitting. This would be a reduction of 81 days of closure (295 days to 214 days).
For Pyramid to allocate additional resources, workers, and accept the risk, Change Order No. 6 would pay a lump sum price of $325,000. This pay item would be reduced at $5,300 per day should the Contractor not meet deadlines.
With approval of this Change Order No. 6, project completion would be anticipated by end of 2026.
