Summary:

During an inspection in 2019, it was discovered that a City of Olathe sanitary sewer manhole was constructed over an existing Johnson County Wastewater (JCW) sanitary sewer line.  The City of Olathe infrastructure was constructed in 1984 as part of the Main 10 decommissioning in the Indian Creek sewer basin.

This project will replace JCW’s corroded 24-inch ductile iron sanitary sewer main that crosses directly through Olathe’s sanitary sewer interceptor manhole. Olathe constructed the manhole around JCW’s existing 24-inch sanitary sewer main due to both mains having the exact same elevations and topography. Following the replacement, the manhole and the crossing pipe will be epoxy lined to extend the life of the City’s manhole and the JCW sanitary sewer main. Leaks or failure of the severely corroded 24-inch JCW main would drain sewage into Olathe’s interceptor reducing capacity and incur a higher JCW treatment bill until repaired.

JCW dictated that Wiedenmann, Inc. be utilized as the contractor to do the work.  The work will be performed under JCW’s price agreement with Wiedenmann. The contract price for this work is $475,200.

Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in Summer 2024 and tentatively scheduled to be completed in Fall 2024.
