Summary:

This item provides an overview of the City’s federal priorities in advance of upcoming meetings with the federal delegation and is intended to facilitate Council discussion and alignment on a focused set of projects where federal partnership can advance work already underway.

To support effective federal engagement, the City has identified a limited number of priority projects that are already in the pipeline and have been previously vetted. Maintaining this focus helps ensure a clear and consistent message while positioning the City to advance projects that are ready to move forward.

The City’s primary federal priorities for these meetings are:

Downtown Post Office Relocation and Redevelopment - A previously submitted Community Project Funding request focused on relocation of the existing facility to unlock a key downtown site for redevelopment, including mixed-use and workforce housing opportunities.
Live Crime Center / Public Safety Technology Investment - A previously submitted Community Project Funding request for a public safety initiative aligned with existing federal funding programs, aimed at enhancing real-time coordination, response capabilities, and operational efficiency.

These priorities reflect projects where local planning and investment are already in place and where federal partnership can have a meaningful near-term impact.

Council input is requested on the proposed priorities and overall approach. This discussion is intended to ensure alignment on the City’s federal advocacy efforts while maintaining a focused and effective strategy for upcoming meetings.
