Summary:

This annual project is in place to install new traffic signals or to replace existing traffic signals that have been identified through an inspection process to be in poor condition or beyond their useful life.

This year’s project includes funding the replacement of the existing traffic signals at the intersections of 135th & Brougham and 135th & Black Bob.  The existing signals were installed in 1993 and are at the end of their useful life of 25 to 30 years.  These signals have conduits and poles in poor condition and mast arms with wear due to fatigue.  The project includes the replacement of the traffic signal conduits, controllers, control boxes, mast arms, poles, and attached equipment.  Additionally, this year’s project includes the design of the replacement of the existing pedestrian hybrid beacon signal at the intersection of 116th Terrace & Pflumm Road.  The replacement of the pedestrian hybrid beacon signal is a joint project with Overland Park.

Additionally, the installation or replacement of traffic signal conduits, controllers, control boxes, mast arms, poles, attached equipment and other necessary equipment may be included at additional locations to address modifications needed to improve traffic flow and operations.

Construction of the 135th & Brougham and the 135th & Black Bob traffic signals is scheduled for 2026 as part of the 135th Street Arterial Mill and Overlay Project.  Design of the pedestrian hybrid beacon signal is scheduled for 2026 with construction tentatively scheduled for 2027.
