Summary:
On May 7, 2024, the City Council approved Resolution 24-1016 authorizing $1,050,000 as approved in the 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for updates and modernization to existing fire department facilities. The use of these project funds will specifically target interior renovations and building expansion needed at Fire Station No. 2. The award of the FY2022 SAFER GRANT allowed the Fire Department the opportunity to add an additional 24/7 staffed apparatus for calls for service to Fire Station No. 2. Daily staffing will increase from nine to thirteen members. The renovations and expansions as part of this project will increase the number of sleeping rooms, increase storage for personnel protective equipment, and increase the exercise room for staff.
The scope of this renovation and expansion project for Fire Station No. 2 was not known at the time of approval of the $1,050,000 of general obligation bond funding in the 2024-2028 CIP. Based on scope of the renovations and expansion required to accommodate the additional personnel at Fire Station No. 2, and based on the bids received for construction of the project, the total project cost is now estimated at $2,073,143. This resolution increases the project funding from $1,050,000 to $2,073,143 in general obligation bond funding. Pending approval of this resolution, the next item on the Council agenda is a GMP amendment to authorize construction of the project.
