Summary:
This project is needed to provide a missing link of 119th Street between Woodland Road and Northgate, giving total transportation connectivity of 119th Street from K-7 Highway to I-35, reducing congestion on adjacent arterials, and promoting commercial growth and development along the 119th Street corridor. The Project will include a new 4-lane divided arterial section of 119th Street between Woodland and Northgate, as well as intersection improvements at Lone Elm Road and 119th Street, Iowa and 119th Street, Woodland Road and 119th Street, with a new roundabout at 119th Street and Northgate Street. The Project will also include a bridge that spans the BNSF Railroad and Mill Creek. The Project will provide pedestrian accommodations and a connection from 119th Street to the Gary Haller Trail.
Currently, Northgate is closed north of the Gary Haller Trail access as part of the 119th Street improvement project. To extend the service life of the Northgate Bridge over Mill Creek, located just south of the 119th Street project limits, staff recommends completing bridge maintenance during this closure to minimize future traffic impacts and take advantage of contractor access already in place. Change Order No. 9 with Pyramid Contractors, Inc. establishes the cost for all labor, equipment, and materials required to complete bridge patching and repairs and to install an epoxy polymer overlay on the existing bridge deck. The total amount of Change Order No. 9 is $335,374.45.
Upon approval of Change Order No. 9, repair work is anticipated to begin in July. All work is expected to be completed before the planned reopening of 119th Street and Northgate in October 2026.
