Summary:
Pioneer Park is a new neighborhood park located at the corner of College Boulevard and S. Woodland Street. Phase 1 of the project, which is currently underway, includes construction of a new parking lot with access from S. Race Street, new walking trails, and improvements to the drainage areas and stream corridor that run through the property. This phase will add approximately 0.75 miles of walking trails.
Phase 2, planned for future years, will complete the entry drive connecting the parking lot to 108th Terrace and add amenities such as a restroom, shelter, and playground.
Sands Construction, LLC was awarded the Phase 1 construction contract following City Council approval on January 20, 2026. Change Order No. 3, in the amount of $268,095.25, would add construction of the concrete sidewalks and trails to the contractor’s scope of work. This work was originally planned to be completed in-house by Olathe Facilities Construction staff; however, due to staff availability and time constraints, the work would need to be delayed. As a result, completing this portion of the project in-house would no longer provide sufficient cost savings to justify diverting staff from other maintenance and construction responsibilities.
Construction for Phase 1 is ongoing and planned to be complete in late Summer 2026.
