Summary:
The City of Olathe has been leveraging the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) ArcGIS platform since 1995 to enhance its Geographic Information System (GIS) capabilities, which are crucial for day-to-day operations. In Olathe, GIS is used to:
• Map and maintain water, sewer, and storm water utility networks
• Support right-of-way, pavement management, and capital project planning
• Provide zoning, permitting, and development review maps to planners and the public
• Enable asset inventory and work order routing in the field (mobile GIS)
• Assist police, fire, and emergency management with incident mapping, and event planning
• Publish interactive maps and dashboards for residents and internal decision-makers
The current ESRI software contract, at $110,000 in the final year under the expiring agreement, saw an approximate 12% average annual increase to reach this cost. Staff recommend renewing the contract for a three-year period at a cost of $120,000 per year, representing a 9.1% increase over the current cost and no incremental costs for the duration of this agreement.
