Consideration of Resolution No. 26-1001 establishing the commencement of terms of office for City Council members elected in the 2025 City elections.

Summary:
State law (K.S.A. 25-313 and 25-2120) provides that the term of office for newly-elected city officers shall commence on the second Monday in January following certification of the election, unless the city establishes a different date by resolution. Because this biennium’s organizational meeting of the City Council, pursuant to Charter Ordinance 76, is being held before the second Monday in January, the attached resolution (Attachment A) establishes the commencement of the term of office for newly-elected City Council members to coincide with the organizational meeting.
