Summary:

This project is needed to provide a missing link of 119th Street between Woodland Road and Northgate, giving total transportation connectivity of 119th Street from K-7 Highway to I-35, reducing congestion on adjacent arterials, and promoting commercial growth and development along the 119th Street corridor.  The Project will include a new 4-lane divided arterial section of 119th Street between Woodland and Northgate, as well as intersection improvements at Lone Elm Road and 119th Street, Iowa and 119th Street, Woodland Road and 119th Street, with a new roundabout at 119th Street and Northgate Street.  The Project will also include a bridge that spans the BNSF Railroad and Mill Creek. The Project will provide pedestrian accommodations and a connection from 119th Street to the Gary Haller Trail.

Construction is anticipated to start before the end of the 2024. To start construction on the bridge, there is a city-owned 30” water transmission main that will need to be relocated. Some of the materials necessary to relocate the water line have extensive lead times. These materials are critical to construction and have a direct impact on the construction schedule.  To help expedite construction of the water line, the City needs to purchase some of the materials at this time. This will allow the Contractor to minimize delays in starting bridge construction.

At this time, staff is only requesting approval of a 12” gate valve and two 30” butterfly valves.  The remaining water line materials are not anticipated to have lead times that will impact the construction schedule. The remaining materials will be acquired through our typical process, once a Contractor is selected.  The total price of these valves is $52,735 with a total lead time of 22-24 weeks.

Construction on this project is anticipated to begin by the end of 2024 with completion anticipated in Spring 2027.
