Summary:
In accordance with K.S.A. 12-520(a)(7), the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas (the “Petitioner”) has submitted a petition for annexation of approximately 4.57 acres of land (Exhibit A) located northwest of W. 175th Street and S. Mur-Len Road (ANX25-0006), which lies contiguous with the corporate boundaries of the City of Olathe. The property is within the City of Olathe’s Growth Area and is designated on the Future Land Use Map of the Comprehensive Plan as Community Commercial Center.
The Petitioner received conditional use permit approval in 2024 from the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners (Resolution 045-24) to continue operating the existing private school for 30 years. The petitioner desires to continue this use and the City will honor the terms of this conditional use permit in accordance with Unified Development Ordinance Section 18.20.
This annexation would eliminate an enclave of unincorporated land that adjoins the city boundary on three sides. The annexation request was on the January 6, 2026 City Council as a report item.
