Summary:
The Santa Fe corridor is currently congested, impacting the east-west travel times throughout the city. The interchange is also a critical component of the City’s transportation network, which is also congested and causes traffic to back up onto I-35. The interchange currently has a crash rate that is approximately 6 times the national average.
This project will improve Santa Fe from Ridgeview Road to Mur-Len Road. The project will also include the reconstruction of the interchange at I-35 along with auxiliary lanes on I-35 from Santa Fe to 119th Street. Improvements will include new bridges, pavement widening/reconstruction, roadway realignments/extensions, access control, signal installation, median construction, streetlights, sidewalks and all other work necessary to complete the project.
The proposed agreements with KDOT define the responsibilities and cost shares for both Olathe and KDOT. Agreement No. 529-23 outlines the responsibilities associated with the work along Santa Fe from Ridgeview to Mur-Len, including the interchange reconstruction. Agreement No. 631-23 outlines the responsibilities associated with the auxiliary lanes on I-35 from Santa Fe to 119th Street. Olathe will administer the work associated with Agreement No. 529-23 and KDOT will administer the work associated with Agreement No. 631-23. Shared costs include Right-of-way and utility relocations with Olathe covering the cost of design and KDOT covering the costs of construction and construction engineering and inspection. The agreements provide reimbursement funds for actual costs of the project up to a maximum of 79.9%.
The estimate total cost for this project $199,277,737. This includes preliminary and final design, utility relocation, survey, staff time, land acquisition, construction, construction engineering and construction inspection.
This project is tentatively scheduled land acquisition in 2024/2025, utility relocation in 2025/2026, and construction to begin in 2027.
