Summary:
This project is needed to provide a missing link of 119th Street between Woodland Road and Northgate, giving total transportation connectivity of 119th Street from K-7 Highway to I-35, reducing congestion on adjacent arterials, and promoting commercial growth and development along the 119th Street corridor. The Project will include a new 4-lane divided arterial section of 119th Street between Woodland and Northgate, as well as intersection improvements at Lone Elm Road and 119th Street, Iowa and 119th Street, Woodland Road and 119th Street, with a new roundabout at 119th Street and Northgate Street. The Project will also include a bridge that spans the BNSF Railroad and Mill Creek. The Project will provide pedestrian accommodations and a connection from 119th Street to the Gary Haller Trail.
A Professional Services Agreement with HDR Engineering, Inc. was approved by City Council on February 2, 2021, and included traffic analysis, data collection, conceptual design alternatives, preliminary design and economic analysis. Supplemental Agreement No 1 was approved by City Council on February 1, 2022, and provided final design for the services for the project. Supplemental Agreement No. 2 was approved by City Council on March 7, 2023, and provided provide engineering services for geotechnical work, utility potholing, relocation design of the City’s 30” water transmission main to accommodate bridge work, and bridge railing design including aesthetic elements. Supplemental Agreement No. 3 was approved by City Council on September 5, 2023, and provided additional design services that were needed to finalize the project.
Supplemental Agreement No. 4 will provide inspection and construction phase services for the duration of construction on the 119th Street Improvements. These inspection services are necessary for the specialized structures on this project, including the two east and west bound 119th Street bridges to be constructed over BNSF and Mill Creek. The total fee for Supplemental Agreement No. 4 is $1,378,388.
Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in December 2024 and tentatively scheduled to be completed in early 2027.
