Summary:
The mobile shelving units will be used in the new Indian Creek Library for shelving and display of books, magazines, newspapers, and other library items. The manufacturer OPTO was identified as being durable with flexible shelving configurations that are easy to maneuver. Flexibility of space was a major consideration when designing the Indian Creek Library and OPTO products helped achieve that goal better than any other product that was identified. Additionally, the OPTO units are aesthetically appropriate in terms of structural materials used throughout the building.
The City submitted an invitation for bids. However, on April 3, 2019 no bids were received for library mobile shelving. Additional effort was made to reach out to a couple of different vendors who were known to sell the OPTO brand for mobile shelving. However, the only response was from the manufacturer of the shelving units.
Staff recommends award of contract to OPTO.
One (1) Olathe vendor was notified. They did not respond to the bid because they did not provide the equipment being requested.

Financial Impact:
Estimated expenditure $234,155. Funding will be from the Indian Creek Library project.
