Summary:

The Indian Creek sanitary sewer basin serves the area east of I-35 to Olathe’s city limits and from College Boulevard south to around 167th Street.  The location of the basin can be seen on the Project Location Map (Attachment C).  This sanitary sewer basin serves over 46,000 residents and business owners in the eastern part of the City.  This sanitary sewer basin includes over 160 miles of sanitary sewer and 4,000 manholes.  Sanitary sewer is collected and transferred to Johnson County Wastewater at 119th and Quivira for treatment.

A Request for Qualifications for this project was issued on May 10, 2019.  Five (5) firms responded to this request, and Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, Inc. (Burns & McDonnell) was selected based on the submitted qualifications. The proposed agreement with Burns & McDonnell includes the development of a hydraulic model for the Indian Creek sanitary sewer basin.  Calibration of the hydraulic model will utilize the flow monitoring data that was collected in Spring 2019. This model is used to determine and accurately identify sanitary sewer mains needing replacement due to capacity shortfalls.  The total cost of this agreement is $376,900.

The study will begin immediately following approval of this agreement with completion anticipated in Spring 2020.
