Summary:
Attached is the Olathe 2040 Future Ready Strategic Plan document (Attachment A). Also included are the supplemental context notes for the Strategic Plan, delineating assumptions, trends, as well as sources for measures which were provided to the City Council as part of the August 20, 2019 City Council agenda and sent via email to the City Council on September 6, 2019.
The community strategic planning process began in March, 2018, when the City Council participated in a Futures Lab workshop and established the foundation for the Plan. That foundation included five focus areas: Future Ready, Economy, Exceptional Services, Infrastructure and Quality of Life. A comprehensive public engagement process gathered 3,202 ideas for Olathe’s future from residents using online and in-person engagement. The business community and other key community groups also spoke into the Plan. The Strategic Planning Advisory Committee considered those ideas along with local, regional, and global trends to establish the Vision Framework and developed a vision for each focus area. The Vision Framework was reviewed with the City Council on November 6, 2018. More than seventy (70) City staff and community business partners contributed to creating goals, strategies, measures and milestones that support the vision and make the new community-focused Plan ready for implementation. The City Council also provided feedback and comments at several stages which are reflected in the Plan.
The Olathe 2040 Future Ready Strategic Plan is a platform designed to launch Olathe to be positioned to get out ahead of issues our community will be facing through 2040. The Plan will set a course for future generations to live and work in one of the best future-ready cities in the nation, serving as a guide for Olathe to be more responsive to adversity and to be more resilient, innovative, nimble, and collaborative over the next 20 years. Olathe will have large issues that will not always be solved by the City alone or solved overnight. This Plan helps the community peek over the horizon to position itself for success.
