Summary:
The Urban Deer Management Program (codified in Olathe Municipal Code Section 9.14.110) allows the City Council to approve property for the harvesting of deer by bow and arrow. A written report must be provided for each property from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) indicating the property owner has deer overpopulation and property damage caused by the deer. All applicants must also meet the Police Department’s permitting requirements.
Two (2) properties have requested permission to harvest deer on their property for the upcoming 2019-2020 hunting season. All applicants indicated they were participating in the program prior to the August 1st application deadline. Maps showing the area for bow hunting and letters from the KDWP indicating the need for bow hunting have been provided. Exhibit 1 lists the property owners and locations. Exhibits 2 and 3 contain the request from each property.
Exhibit 4 is the proposed resolution allowing the applicants to harvest deer.
Exhibit 5 is the Annual Urban Deer Management Report prepared by the Police Department for the 2018-2019 season.
