Summary:

The department’s safety committee was tasked with ensuring that the City’s firefighters had the safest, lightest, product available, while being the most economical and NFPA compliant gear possible.  During the research, the top three manufacturers of fire department bunker gear (Morning Pride, Quest, and Lion) were evaluated.  In 2014, a competitive solicitation was put out on which the vendors were judged on these factors, which led to the selection of Morning Pride as best meeting the criteria.  The safety committee continually evaluates the gear for compliance to the established criteria.

Typical bunker gear includes the helmet, coat, pants, boots, gloves and quick-adjusting suspenders.  New recruits are measured and outfitted during their training and gear replacements are every 10 years or when damaged beyond a cost-effective repair.  It is planned that up to 50 sets of bunker gear could be purchased each year of the contract.

Staff recommends renewal of contract with Jerry Ingram/Fire & Rescue through October 1, 2024.
