Summary:

10 sculptures and 3 alternates were recommended by the Olathe Public Art Committee for the 2021 Downtown Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit. The sculptures were reviewed by Council at the February 2nd meeting. After considering feedback from the Council, the committee has recommended 9 sculptures to be featured in the 2021 Exhibit.

The 9 sculptures recommended to be featured in the exhibit are:

Artist                                                                                    Sculpture Title

Nicole Beck                                                               Asteray

Nathan Pierce                                           Selene

Rhoda Powers                                          Summer Fun

James Payne                                          Isolation

Brian Ferriby                                                               Firewalker

Chris Itsell                                                               Uplift

Sunghee Min                                                               Cherry

Kirk Seese                                                               The Feather

Reven Swanson                                          Butterflies within a Butterfly

Alternates:

Nathan Pierce                                          Indigenous

Andrew Denton                                          Lovearch

The sculptures will be leased by the City for one year. Final sculpture locations are still to be determined; it is necessary for site location to be flexible, as sculptures may need to be relocated after arrival to ensure the best fit for each sculpture site.

Financial Impact:

The annual budget for the Downtown Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit is $15,000. In 2021, the estimated total expense is $20,000. Leftover funds from the 2020 Exhibit will be utilized to cover the additional costs.
