Summary:
Sourcewell competitively issued a bid and awarded a contract to Kohler for generators and related equipment. Cooperative contracts leverage value-added pricing, vendor service levels, and advantageous contract terms. CK Power submitted a quote based on the Sourcewell Kohler contract # 120617-KOH for eight (8) electrical generator sets to be placed at City of Olathe lift stations. These Kohler brand generators will be placed at the following City of Olathe wastewater lift stations (cost includes purchase, freight and start up services):
N. 7 Highway $21,850
Old 56 Highway $21,850
N. Woodland Road $21,850
Valley Road $21,245
Provence Village $41,216
Lakestone $41,850
Lakeshore $28,680
Robinson $16,724
Total Cost $215,265
The proposed generator units, once installed, will provide backup emergency power to ensure these lift stations continue to pump the approximately 38MGD per day of sewage that flows through these sites, even during power outages, severe weather events, etc. The Utility Maintenance Section within the Field Operations Division of Infrastructure provides for the continued maintenance and repair of these lift station sites. These generators have been an on-going need, especially during the cold weather in February 2021 when we had several lift stations lose power. Low temperatures prevented the use of by-pass pumps to the lift stations to alleviate the loss of power and keep wastewater flowing. Backup generators would have provided power to continue the pumping and prevented the lift stations from overflowing and causing an SSO. In addition, these generators would have provided power to keep the lift station heaters going to prevent the piping from freezing.
Staff recommends award to CK Power for the purchase of eight (8) electrical generator sets for the N. 7 Highway, Old 56 Highway, N. Woodland Road, Valley Road, Provence Village, Lakestone, Lakeshore, and Robinson wastewater lift stations.
