Summary:
This Change Order is the final change order for these projects and allows the City of Olathe to award VF Anderson Builders incentives that were earned by completing the project ahead of schedule.
This project included the construction of a designated right turn lane and an additional thru lane for southbound traffic; an additional left turn lane, and additional thru lane and a designated right turn lane for eastbound traffic; an additional left turn lane, an additional thru lane and a designated right turn lane for northbound traffic; an additional southbound lane on the south leg of the intersection; an additional left turn lane for westbound traffic; and a third traveling lane on the east leg of the intersection for eastbound traffic. Also included was median modifications to allow for increased storage in the left turn lanes on all legs of the intersection and a 2” mill and overlay on Santa Fe between I-35 and Kansas City Road.
This project required the closure of Santa Fe between I-35 to the BNSF railroad tracks with the construction contract only allowing a maximum of 16 weeks for this closure. Upon reopening Santa Fe, Ridgeview Road was closed between Spruce Street and Park Street with the construction contract only allowing a maximum of 16 weeks for this closure. Due to the burdens these closures would place on the citizens of Olathe, the construction contract contained incentives of $25,000 per week to complete each phase of the work early and open the roadways. VF Anderson worked diligently and completed each phase ahead of schedule earning them a total of $225,000 in incentive pay and saving the City 9 weeks of closure time.
Also included in this change order are all items necessary to close out the contract with VF Anderson. Items include additional concrete base widening, additional storm sewer tie ins and modifications, striping adjustments and all other work necessary to complete this complex project.
This change order adds $478,054.44 to the construction contract total. The current contract amount of $9,094,984.26 will be increased by this change order to $9,573,038.70. This increase is within the budget for this project.
Construction of this project is complete.
