Summary:

This project will improve Black Bob Road from 159th Street to 167th Street from a 2-lane roadway to a 4-lane divided arterial section.  Improvements will include pavement construction, bike lanes, curb and gutter, medians, streetlights, sidewalk and side path and storm sewers.

The County Assistance Road System (CARS) program provides funds to the cities of Johnson County to construct and maintain their major arterials.  Each year the cities submit a 5-year road improvement plan to Johnson County.  On May 2, 2023, the City Council passed Resolution Number 23-1031 approving the City of Olathe’s application that was submitted for 2024 - 2028 CARS funding.  The Black Bob Road, 159th Street to 167th Street, Improvements Project was selected to receive CARS funding for construction in 2024.

This Agreement (CARS # 320001402) provides CARS funding for 50% of the participating project costs up to a maximum of $2,900,000.  This funding can be used for all eligible costs of construction.

The project is currently in the final design phase with utility relocations and land acquisition beginning in Spring 2024 and is tentatively scheduled to begin construction in Fall 2024.
