Summary:
On June 20, 2023, Council approved a Professional Services Agreement with HNTB Corporation for design of the street preservation projects to improve Ridgeview Road (159th Street to 165th Street), Santa Fe Street (I-35 Highway to Mur-Len Road), and Sheridan Street (Dennis Avenue to Mur-Len Road). The original project scope for Sheridan included milling and asphalt resurfacing, base and subgrade repairs (as needed), concrete curb and sidewalk replacement, installation of ADA compliant sidewalk ramps, placement of pavement markings, stormwater improvements, and installation of an 8’ concrete shared use path on the north side from Lindenwood Drive to Mur-Len Road.
The $68,375 Supplemental Agreement provides engineering services necessary to install an 8’ concrete shared use path on the west side of Mur-Len (Sheridan Street to 139th Street) and installation of streetlights and trees along the path. Design services will include surveying of existing conditions, utility coordination, development of construction plans in accordance with Olathe design standards and specifications, cost estimates, and assistance as needed throughout construction.
It is anticipated that design will begin immediately following approval of this agreement. Staff will bring the construction contract to the City Council for consideration in Spring 2024. Improvements are expected to be completed by Fall 2024.

Financial Impact:
These additional design services and construction of this project will be funded from the City of Olathe’s 2024 Street Preservation Program. Funding for the 2024 Street Preservation Program, as approved in the 2024-2028 CIP, includes:

Transportation Sales Tax $20,160,000
Total: $22,960,000
